James Lovelock: the founder of the Gaia theory has died at age 103


Scientist, known to some as a "prophet of disaster", proposed the (controversial) hypothesis that the Earth is a living organism whose climate is self-regulating.

James Lovelock is among those visionaries whose work needs several generations to be understood. Because he deconstructs, and opens the doors to the integrated, unified and indivisible vision of the functioning of the Earth System, he built the path to the evidence of what today is called Earth System Science. Because he changes the point from which we view our world, he is among the revolutionaries of science like Copernicus, Darwin or Einstein.
